SCTA Election Recommendations

The three highest priorities for Sac City educators in the November 2026 election are passing Measure M, passing Proposition 3, and electing Richard Barrera as the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

YES On Measure M

Voters who live within the Sacramento City Unified School District boundaries are being asked to approve a $95 per year ballot initiative that will fund providing services to students with disabilities and early academic intervention support to all SCUSD students.  The federal government promised to fund the cost of 40% of the services for specials education, but currently provides under 12% of the cost.

YES on State Proposition 3

For nearly 15 years, tax rates paid by the top 2% have delivered $120 billion for smaller class sizes, school lunches, mental health counselors, and the Medi-Cal coverage millions of families rely on, all with no new taxes on working Californians. This is all thanks to voters passing Props 30 and 55. Prop. 3 keeps that funding in place so our students and families don’t lose it.  For SCUSD, Proposition means maintaining $119 million per year in ongoing funding.

Richard Barrera for State Superintendent

Currently the President of the San Diego Unified School Board where he has served for the last 16 years, Richard has worked with educators in San Diego to invest in teachers and classrooms.  He has earned the endorsement of 310,000 educators in CTA and has proven track record of putting students first.
