Update: Reported COVID cases in SCUSD

Below is the daily summary of the legally-required notices we have received from the District about COVID cases at SCUSD, beginning with September 2, 2021, the first day classes began for the majority of SCUSD school sites.

Classes began on August 9 at New Joseph Bonnheim Elementary School and New Tech High School.

We expect to update this post as we receive additional updates from the District.

The information below was provided via periodic emails from SCUSD, most recently from the District October 22, 2021. The District failed to provide an update on October 21, 2021 and offered no explanation for the failure to provide information.

October 20, 2021

All individuals with close contact will be advised to quarantine according to applicable guidelines.   

  • A staff member working at a program at Hiram Johnson High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 13, 14 and 15.
  • A student at Luther Burbank High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 13, 14, 15, 18 and 19.
  • Two students at Hiram Johnson High School tested positive for COVID-19 and were physically present on October 14.  These cases are related outside of school.
  • A student attending a program at Hiram Johnson High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 18, 19 and 20.
  • A student at American Legion High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 18, 19 and 20.
  • A student at Arthur A. Benjamin Health Professions High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 18.
  • A student at Rosemont High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 18.
  • A student at Will C. Wood Middle School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 15. 
  • A student at Peter Burnett Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 15.  These cases are related outside of school.
  • A student at Edward Kemble Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 11, 12 and 13.
  • A student at Ethel I. Baker Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 14 and 15.
  • A student at Golden Empire Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 13, 14, 15, 19 and 20.
  • A student at Golden Empire Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 18, 19 and 20.
  • A student at Woodbine Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 19 and 20.

Note:

A student case reported on October 13, 2021 at Bowling Green Chacon Elementary School was determined to not be present at school while infectious.  This case had been retracted.  

October 14, 2021

All individuals with close contact will be advised to quarantine according to applicable guidelines.   

  • A student at Hiram Johnson High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 12 (other dates tbd).  A student at Camellia Basic Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 6 and 7.  These cases are related outside of school.
  • Two students at Tahoe Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and were physically present on October 11 and 12.  These cases are all related outside of school.
  • Two students at Pacific Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and were physically present on October 4.  These cases are all related outside of school
  • A student at the School of Engineering and Sciences tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 11.
  • A student at the Albert Einstein Middle School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 11.
  • A student at the O.W. Erlewine Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 8.
  • A student at the Crocker Riverside Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 4, 5 and 6.

  • A student at Phoebe Hearst Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 4, 5 and 8.  This case is related outside of school to a previous case reported on October 12.

Note:

A student case reported on October 12, 2021 at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School met the criteria for being a false positive.  The exposure date was October 7, 8 and 11.  This case had been retracted.  

October 13, 2021

All individuals with close contact will be advised to quarantine according to applicable guidelines.   

  • A student at  Luther Burbank High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 5 and 6.  Two students at  Bowling Green Chacon Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and were physically present on October 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.  These three cases are all related outside of school.
  • A student at  Bowling Green Chacon Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 11, 12 and 13.
  • A student at  Bowling Green Chacon Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 7, 8, 11 and 12.
  • A student at  John Still K-8 School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
  • A student at Cesar Chavez Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 11, 12 and 13.
  • A student at Golden Empire Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

  • A student at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on October 7, 8 and 11.

A student case reported on October 5, 2021 at Luther Burbank High School with an exposure date was October 5 has met the criteria for a false positive.  This case had been retracted.

  • A student at Mark Twain Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 14, 15 and 16.
  • A student at Susan B. Anthony Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 17.
  • A student at Albert Einstein Middle School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 20, 21 and 27.
  • A student at Albert Einstein Middle School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 27 and 28.
  • A student at Hiram Johnson High School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 23 and 24.
  • A student at Peter Burnett Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 27.

Case from 9/24/21:

A student at Alice Birney K-8 School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 20, 21, 22 and 23.

In addition, responding to our request, the District released a September 27 letter from Sacramento County Public Health requiring additional testing at New Joseph after 8 new cases were reported. You can view the letter here. As the email provided from the District for September 27 below indicates, the number of new cases at NJB has now grown to 9.

September 27, 2021

All individuals with close contact will be advised to quarantine according to applicable guidelines.   

  • A student at New Joseph Bonnheim Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24.
  • A student at New Joseph Bonnheim Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 21, 22, 23, and 24.
  • A student at New Joseph Bonnheim Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and was physically present on September 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24.
