We Have an Agreement!
SCTA Staff | June 13th, 2016
After nearly a year of negotiations and just as we completed our vote to approve a strike, we reached a tentative agreement with the District that achieves our goal of improving wages by an additional 5% over the 2015-16 school year.
The SCTA Board of Directors, the Bargaining Team and the Rep Council are all recommending approval of the agreement.
Summary and Full Text of the Tentative Agreement
School Board to Vote June 16th
1. Wages: All salary schedules, stipends, including rate of pay for substitutes will be increased by an additional 5% over the 2015-16 school year, in addition to the 1% previously agreed to in the 2014-15 contract negotiations, for a total of 8% in the past two years. The wages will increase as follows
a. Effective July 1, 2015, wages will be increased retroactively by an additional 2.5%.
b. Effective January 1, 2016, wages will be increased retroactively by an additional 2.5%.
2. Collaborative Time: In our last contract negotiations in 2014-15, the parties agreed to negotiate the implementation of built-in collaborative time, but we were never able to finalize the details–until now. This tentative agreement incorporates the existing 18 hours of Common Planning Time (CPT) and adds an additional 8 paid hours of CPT to build in 60 minutes of banked, collaborative time each week. Instructional minutes will be increased by 12 minutes on each regular instructional day and students will go home 1 hour early on Thursdays. Monthly staff meetings will now also be incorporated into the regular work day on the first Thursday of each month, rather than an additional hour. The salary schedules will be increased to reflect the additional eight hours of paid time.
3. Counselors Arbitration: The agreement also resolves the long-standing grievance/arbitration related to counselors, and provides substantial back pay to those counselors at work sites that were understaffed in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
4. Negotiations for New Contract: The parties agree to begin bargaining for our new contract when the new school year starts with the understanding that the effective date of the agreement will be retroactive to July 1, 2016, and with the goal of having the new agreement finalized by December 1, 2016.
Ratification electronically will begin Monday, June 13, and conclude Thursday, June 16.
