SCTA’s Endorsed School Board Candidates for 2024

With the filing period now closed, we are pleased to announce that two out the four candidates endorsed by the Sacramento City Teachers Association will be running unopposed: Chinua Rhodes in Area 5 and Michael Benjamin Jr in Area 7.

SCTA’s endorsed candidates in Areas 3 and 4 have opponents.

SCTA’s endorsed candidate in Area 3 is Jose Navarro.

Jose is an Information Technology professional who works for the State of California. He is also a union member. In addition to SCTA, he has the support of SEIU 1021, which represents the SCUSD classified staff; the Sacramento Central Labor Council, the Democratic Party of Sacramento, and the Latino Democrats.

SCTA’s endorsed candidate in Area 4 is April Ybarra.

April is the mother of two daughters, one who recently graduated from and the other who currently attends, SCUSD schools. She has been an active parent at virtually every level of the district: school site council, the district’s LCAP committee, and she currently serves on the SCUSD Community Schools oversight committee. Professionally, April has been a national trainer for the Parent Teacher Home Visit project. April is also a union member. In addition to SCTA, she has the support of SEIU 1021, which represents the SCUSD classified staff; the Sacramento Central Labor Council, the Democratic Party of Sacramento, and the Latino Democrats.
