 P.E.

We have had heard some concerns about the EPEC program for PE. This program and its use was not discussed or developed through collaborating with SCTA and PE teachers.  As a result many PE teachers do not feel it is the best physical education program available.  We believe that EPEC would make a better supplemental program. So, we need your input. Please email us at SCTA@saccityta.com with your thoughts on this matter.

Also, PE teachers should not have any doubled classes this year. If you have doubled classes scheduled contact us immediately. Having doubled classes is against the contract and will keep other PE specialists from returning to work.

 Custodians

SCTA has received quite a few calls from returning teachers asking about the possible shortage of custodial staff.  We are hearing that the District is attempting to push custodial responsibilities onto principals.   As is often the case, principals are attempting to assign these duties to teachers.  Let us be very clear. SCTA members do not do other bargaining unit members work!  Please use your contract as a guide and as always please contact SCTA if you have any questions around additional assignments or changes.

 Laid-off Members

We are concerned about how teachers are being brought back. As you know, we have filed several lawsuits defending the rights of our teachers to be brought back in seniority order per our contract.   We recently took depositions of priority school principals for the 11-12 rehire period and that lawsuit proceeds.  Sadly, we are looking into filing another lawsuit over the rehire process for this year. We are doing all that we can to make sure teachers rights are defended in this challenging environment.  The best info we can get form the District is lacking detail and we are unsure about their process.

 Day of Service

First Annual Volunteer Fair – September 8th, from 1-4 pm at the Oak Park Community Center, 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

September 11th has been named the National Day of Service.  Senator Steinberg invites you to visit the fair to find a volunteer activity to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy and those who rose in service in its aftermath.
