CPT

It was our understanding that up to 12 hours of CPT would be offered two days before the beginning of school. These hours are to be VOLUNTARY.  The principals can choose to offer the hours as PD, or offer nothing at all, or as CPT hours. However, remember that no matter how they are offered they are voluntary. You are responsible for 18 hours in all during the school year.

 Campaign 2012 Training

As we approach the November election SCTA members are going to be asked to vote YES on Prop 30.  The failure of this proposition will cause our unit members to receive an additional 10 furlough days and cause further cuts to our schools.  We will also be asking members to vote NO on Prop 32 which takes away our right to participate in elections and hands over that power to large corporations.  We need all the help and support we can get from within our local.  CTA is offering an informative training in Sacramento on August 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 (dinner provided) at the CTA Region 2 office at 4100 Truxel Road.   This training will help explain the way these two propositions could change the face of public education in our District.  If you have any questions or would like to attend please RSVP Carlos Rico at sydalg00@yahoo.com.

 Surplus Teacher Placement

We have heard from some surplussed teachers who chose a position, based on their seniority order, only to find out once they arrived at the new school that the position was a different one. This is another attempt to undermine seniority rights. If you are a surplussed teacher and this has happened to you please contact the union, 452-4591.

 Calendar 2012-2013

SCTA and the District have been unable to reach agreement of the upcoming calendar. We have stated our belief that the calendar should follow the contract. The District has asked for reductions. We are continuing our discussions.
