The bargaining team has been hard at work and has met several times with SCTA staff to plan how we will respond to district’s request for a contract opening due to their budget problems. Our first goal is to find out what you, our members, think. We’ve developed a survey that was presented at rep council that is intended to provide us with valuable information as we move forward with this process. As we enter another difficult Spring budget season, it will be critical that members know the facts, and not just what the district wants us to believe. A special thanks to the Organizing committee for putting out a great fact sheet to help educate our members! We’ve also been doing research and looking into the budget .After crunching numbers. we’ve noticed an interesting trend that indicates the teachers salaries as a percentage of the overall district budget have been going down steadily since 2006. Our conclusion, teacher compensation is NOT to blame for the district’s budget situation, whatever claims the district may make.
