Annual Crab Dinner
Every year, SCTA’s Annual Crab Feed is our big event that brings teachers and the community together to raise funds for scholarships. College tuition and fees are higher than ever and our scholarship program is a way that teachers and SCTA can help. The event includes a raffle, silent auction, and dancing with great music by a DJ or live band. This event generally sells out, so buy early and often.

Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project
This extraordinary partnership between SCTA, SCUSD, and a community organizing group (ACT) began in 1998 as an effort to address the cycle of blame that existed between parents and site personnel at several Sacramento schools where there was a pervasive history of low student achievement, high levels of poverty, and where high percentages of children entered school as English learners.

PROFESSIONAL relationships developed between families and teachers. Each co-educator is respected for expertise regarding knowledge of student and curriculum.
TRUST established between community and schools. Home visits help end the common cycle of blame at schools with history of low student achievement.
HOPE rekindled for student and school site success.
Parents, teachers and students share hopes, expectations and plans for academic success.
VISITS provide opportunity for teachers to step into the community. Perceptions are altered and cultural competency is increased in our diverse school communities.
PARTICIPATION in visits is voluntary for everyone and teachers are paid for time. Visits are designed to open lines of communication, not for assessments or interventions.
Read Across America
Read Across America is a national day celebrating reading. It’s sponsored by the National Education Association and the California Teachers Association along with many of the country’s leading literacy and youth groups to motivate children to read and generate new enthusiasm for reading, and SCTA always participates.
Annual Sox and Undies Drive
Every Year, SCTA helps fill the PTA Clothes Closet with NEW socks and undies for all ages. Items are collected at the SCTA Office for inventory. Donations are marked with the name of the school site, and the segment or school with the most donated items receives breakfast courtesy of SCTA. The Clothes Closet benefits the children of our community.
Marching to Inspire the Youth
Every year, SCTA participates in marches held in the city of Sacramento that celebrate the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez. These events continue in the spirit of struggle that their inspirational figureheads embodied, unifying efforts to bring social, political, and economic justice to our nation.
