The SCTA bargaining team met with the district for the first official negotiating session on Thursday, February 9th. The district presented its interim budget and started the process of explaining its financial difficulties. The district stated that with the 29 million dollars of cuts recently approved by the school board, the budget would be balanced for the 2012-2013 school year. This assumes that Governor Brown’s tax initiative passes in November 2012. If not, the district claims it would be forced to make an additional 15 million dollars in mid-year cuts for the 2012-2013 school year. No proposals were presented at this meeting. The district and SCTA scheduled several more meetings. The bargaining team will continue to keep members up to date as the bargaining process continues.
